Unsubscribing from receiving further messages
In many countries local legislation, and, since 2018 the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in EU mandates that, when sending commercial messages, you should give your recipients a chance to unsubscribe from receiving any further messages. Preferably, this should be done over the same medium the messages are being sent and unsubscribing shouldn't be made more difficult than subscribing (of course, you also have to observe that you need the user confirmation or subscription in the first place). There are exceptions to this requirement, for example, what's called legitimate interest in the GDPR, like sending transaction notifications about a recent purchase or other transactional content.
In order to abide to these rules and makes things easier for our users, Traffic has an in-built unsubscribe management system. In this article we will go over the steps to make your SMS campaigns GDPR compliant so that sending can be done with confidence.
As you can see under the Content field in a New SMS batch window, there is a specific Unsubscribe text lane containing a checkbox that gives you the option to choose and add unsubscribe text, a field for specifying and applying previously configured and saved unsubscribe messages as well as a Configure button that will open a new window allowing the user to set up and delete the unsubscribe messages.

The Configure section allows you to predefine unsubscribe messages for further convenience, however, it is possible to simply add the placeholders inside the message content without any additional effort. Placeholders are system defined and will function accordingly.
Composing the unsubscribe message is simplified with the use of system defined placeholders such that the user simply has to add these placeholders based on the way they wish their customer to unsubscribe. Given the placeholders, you can give you customer the chance to either send a STOP text message [UNSUB-TEXT] to a 4-digit number [UNSUB-NUMBER] or click a system generated unsubscribe link [UNSUB-LINK] in order to unsubscribe, thus making your SMS campaigns GDPR compliant with ease.

In case any of your customers unsubscribed, Traffic will have them gathered inside the Unsubscribed list shown here:

Removing contacts from this list is possible, but should only be done per request made by the customer.
